York - York Sport Velodrome : Image credit Historic England The 250m outdoor velodrome was built on the University of York's Heslington East campus at a cost of £1.1M which was funded by British Cycling and the University. The project was designed by Stephen Hill architects, the contractors were Lumsden and Carroll and the track surface was laid by Lafarge Tarmac using UltiTrack, a 6mm dense tarmac specially developed for velodromes. The floodlit asphalt track is seven metres wide with 30 degree bankings and the velodrome opened in June 2014.

The velodrome was built principally as a development and training facility and has track bikes to hire and runs a mid-week track league.

This is a short video of the track.
